Ana Maria was born in Lisbon in 1959.
In 1982 she graduated in Philosophy at the University of Porto and started her teaching career as a philosophy teacher at a secondary school. Simultaneously, Ana started working as an artist in the different domains of Fine Arts.
The artist has been taking part in several national and international collective exhibitions such as the one "The... of Portuguese Art" in Japan in 1998 and is present in numerous private as well as public collections.
She has been awarded several prizes. The last one was in 2005, when she was awarded the Prize Amadeo de Sousa Cardoso.
Besides being a painter, she also collaborates in different events and art workshops organized by other artists, galleries and institutions.
Ana also writes for catalogues and her own short narratives, which she the illustrates.She has recently published the article “The Artist’s Word” in the first Bombart magazine and integrated the jury for the António Gaio Award at Cinanima – the International Animation Film Festival of Espinho.
In theatre, Ana Maria has team worked in the aesthetic conception of the scenery, in the design and in the actors’ performance.
She has also organized and participated in multidisciplinary events (music, painting, video)
