Carlos Carreiro

Born in 1946 in Ponta Delgada in the Azores. 

 

He is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto. 

Held 57 solo exhibitions. of which are: 

Zen, JN, III, Module, FE Bertrand, Rome and Pavia, SNBA, Diagonal, Gallery Square, Tree, Soctip galleries. Diagonale (Paris), Arco 8, Marconi, Lydia Cruz, Artesis, Almadarte. Mário Sequeira, Presence (Coimbra), Step Art, Sala Maior and White Space.

In 1976 he formed the group Puzzle with Graça Morais, Jaime Silva, Dario Alves, Albuquerque Mendes, Fernando Pinto Coelho, Pedro Rocha, John Dixo and Armando Azevedo. 

Participated in Portugal and abroad in over 300 group exhibitions and the last: "The Screens of the Portuguese" in Tokyo, Argentina, Sao Paulo, Lisbon Oporto, Toronto and Rabat; "The Face of Infante" in Tomar and Viseu; "Images of the Family in Portuguese Art 1801/1992" in Caldas da Rainha and Évora; "El Duero that unites us", organized to commemorate the fifth centenary of the Treaty of Tordesillas, with Portuguese and Spanish Artists in Palencia, Zamora and Salamanca. 

Between 1991 and 1992 with the support of the DRAC was organized a 'traveling exhibition Anthological 25 years of painting "come Angra do Heroismo, Ponta Delgada, Horta and Lisbon, Porto, Amarante, Coimbra, Gondomar, São João da Madeira and Aveiro. 

Along with Carlos Barreira, was commissioner of the exhibition ESPAP / FBAUP "215 Years of Fine Arts on the River" at the Museum of Transport and Communications of the Customs Port in July / August 1995. 

In 1996 he was selected in the competition of Barclays Bank in Lisbon "Barclays Shop" where he earned an honorable mention. 

Participated in the "Second Biennial Art AIP'96" where he received the National Prize for Painting (Org. Coop. Tree). 

Throughout his career received many awards. Edited 6 serigraphs, carried graphic images for the Modern Art Centre of the Calouste Gulbenkian - ACARTE 88 and to the disk GNR "The Waltz of the Detectives." 

He is represented in many institutional and private collections as well as museums in the Regional Assembly of the Azores in Horta where held in the Plenary Room of a panel painting project and carpets. 

In 1997 obtained the Art-Car Award BMW / Bavaria. 

Attended the 9th Biennial Cerveira in Brand - Wood shows in Union Fenosa (La Coruña) and Exhibition Prize Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso - Amarante. 

In 1998 at Arco / 98 Contemporary Art Fair of Madrid; was represented with twelve Portuguese and foreign artists at the booth of Galeria Fernando Santos of Porto, in the exhibition "Art in Time" and the exhibition "Art in Medicine" at the Hospital de Santo António, Porto (Org. Coop. Tree). 

In 1999 participated in the exhibition "Treasures of Portugal" in Macau (Org. Coop. Tree), in "6th Shows Union Fenosa" in Corunna, in Azorean Artists Exhibition in Bermuda and held individual painting "Dos Tricks of the Northwind Revenge of Turkeys "Cooperative Tree, Porto. 

In 2001 an anthology exhibition held at the Museum of Vale de Cambra and participated in the exhibitions: "Port 60/70 - Artists and the City" at the Museum of Serralves; "Groups of 20 + episodes and Porto in century XX." Gallery in the Municipal Library of Porto. 

Also in 2001 presents the Gallery Sala Maior, Porto, the solo exhibition "Parties, and other delights of Home Delusions" and was represented by the same gallery along with Rafael Canogar the Fair Art ART / COLOGNE 91. 

In 2002 participated in esposição "100 names, 100 Artists" in SNBª in Lisbon and held a solo exhibition at White Space Gallery in Viana do Castelo "A Feast of Banality." 

 

Also in 2002 held for the first time in Galeria de São Mamede, a solo exhibition titled "How revisit the Portuguese Painting while using clean-metal heart." 

 

In 2003 will make a solo exhibition in Tokyo Tukushima and other cities of Japan.
