Alberto Reguera

Alberto Reguera (Segovia, 1961) is a Spanish artist who lives between Paris and Madrid. Early in his career he was awarded the Bourse Annuelle de Peinture of the Institut de France, Académie des Beaux-Arts, and in 2001 he received the Prémio Ojo Crítico in Spain. His work develops around painting as an expanded field, exploring the relationship between space, matter and depth, often in dialogue with installation and performance.

His exhibition career began in Europe and gradually extended into the international context. In 2003 he took part in Exhibit-E, in Washington D.C., and in 2012 he created a pictorial installation on the Place du Louvre in Paris. From 2007 onwards his work gained a strong presence in Asia, with exhibitions in Singapore (Sculpture Square), Seoul, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

In 2015 the University Museum and Art Gallery of Hong Kong organised his first retrospective, followed in 2016 by his first major retrospective in Spain, at the Museo Esteban Vicente in Segovia. That same year he was selected for the exhibition From France to Korea, at the Soma Art Museum, and presented the project Antípodas at the Instituto Cervantes in Paris. He also took part in the contemporary art exhibition of the Royal Collections of the Patrimonio Nacional, at the Palacio Real in Madrid.

In 2019 he gave pictorial performances at the Instituto Cervantes in Lisbon and at the HAY Festival Segovia, and took part in the 8th Beijing International Biennale, at the National Art Museum of China (NAMOC). In 2020 he presented a pictorial performance and an exhibition in Beijing, at the Delegation of the European Union to China.

In 2021 the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid organised a solo exhibition of his work, in a dialogue between his landscapes and the work of Aert van der Neer. That same year he took part in Mostra Espanha 2021, at Galeria São Mamede in Lisbon, and was selected for the Cairo International Art District. In 2023 he presented works at the UMAG Museum in Hong Kong and gave a pictorial performance inspired by the river Seine, at the Instituto Cervantes in Paris.

In 2025 the Paris City Council (8th arrondissement) organised an extensive solo exhibition of his work, for which he conceived a pictorial installation that uses space as the central instrument of the work.

In 2026, he presented “An Ephemeral Vision of Canada’s Four Seasons: Imagined Abstract Landscapes and Pictorial Performance” at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, with the support of the Embassy of Spain in Canada.
