Camille Bonneau

Camille Bonneau was born in Paris in 1984. An architect and artist, she lives between London and Lisbon and has developed a practice centred on drawing and on the representation of space.

She trained at the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville, where she studied between 2002 and 2008 and completed a master’s degree in Architecture with distinction. Her academic path also took her to the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris and to the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Between 2016 and 2018 she took a master’s degree in Drawing at the Faculdade de Belas-Artes of the Universidade de Lisboa.

An interest in spatial representation has been with her from early on. In her drawings, the physical reality of places intersects with the sensory dimension of those who walk through and observe them. The superimposition of lines and signs gives rise to large structures, crossed by rotating, explosive forms that introduce movement into the compositions. Through this language she explores the relationship between human constructions and nature, while also opening up space for a reflection of a metaphysical character.

Drawing works as an instrument of investigation, through which she seeks to translate the experiences and the emotions prompted by contact with space. The structures she depicts thus become places where perception and personal experience take part in the construction of the image.

Her public presentations include taking part in a group exhibition with Rise in the City, in New York, in October 2017, and in a group show with HOMA, in Lisbon, in November 2018.
