Carmen Otero

Carmen Otero was born in Madrid in 1963. She graduated in fine arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where she studied between 2000 and 2005. In 2008 she obtained the Diploma de Estudios Avanzados (DEA) as part of her doctoral studies.

Her artistic activity spans sculpture, the creation of stained glass and restoration, with works produced for public institutions, religious spaces and private clients. Her career brings together works in bronze, polychrome wood, aluminium and glass, including a number of interventions integrated into architecture.

Among her main commissions are the fourteen stained-glass windows made for the Catedral de Santa María la Real de la Almudena in Madrid between 1998 and 2000, and the life-size bronze sculpture of Saint John of Ávila, executed for the same cathedral in 1999. In this period she also created the rose-window stained glass for the church of the Trinitarian Fathers in Aluche, Madrid, and a polychrome wood sculpture of Christ for the church of Villar de Domingo García in Cuenca.

In 2001 she made a mural in recycled glass and metal structure for the Ministry of the Environment in Madrid, and stained-glass windows for the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Los Ángeles in Turégano, Segovia. The following year she was responsible for the restoration of the central stained-glass window of the Maumejean Hall in the San Bernardo Auditorium of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Later works include the aluminium reliefs for the doors of an evangelical church in Ponferrada, of 2007, and the trophies for the first edition of the "Miradas" International Women's Film Festival in Madrid, of 2008.

She was selected for the Premio Caja España de Escultura in 2009 and for the II Concurso de Escultura al Aire Libre EXCULTURAL in Bargas, Toledo, in 2010. She has shown her work in galleries, cultural centres and at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid, and has also taken part in the international fairs Art Miami in the United States, ARTBO in Colombia and Art Madrid in Spain.
