Cristina Guise

Cristina Guise was born in Porto in 1969, the city where she lives and works. She completed the degree course in Artistic Drawing at the Escola Superior Artística do Porto and a master's degree in Drawing Practices and Theories at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. In 2004, she attended the workshop "Painting: Feeling Is Liberty", led by the Zhou Brothers at the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts Salzburg, in Austria.

Her career unfolds between drawing and painting, including experiments in drawing on marble, presented at Galeria São Mamede in Lisbon in 2012. Her collaboration with the gallery spans several solo exhibitions, among them "Cheia de Ti", in 2003, "Negras Lendas", in 2004, and "O Vento no Meu Coração", in 2007, all in Lisbon. In the Porto space, she presented "Noites Brancas", in 2009, and "Setembro", in 2013.

Cooperativa Árvore is another space of regular presence in her career, having hosted exhibitions such as "Grandes e Pequenas Histórias", in 2002, and "Todo Este Céu", in 2010. Her solo shows also include "A Memória É uma Emboscada", at Galeria Símbolo in Porto, in 2005, and "Procura-me", at the Academia das Artes de Ponta Delgada, in 2009.

She has taken part in several editions of the Vila Nova de Cerveira Art Biennial and in fairs such as Arte Lisboa, where she was presented by Galeria São Mamede, and Art Madrid. Her international career also includes exhibitions in Austria and in France, where she took part in the group show "Variations portugaises" in 2018.

In 2003, she received the Pintor Fernando Azevedo Prize at the 12th Cerveira Biennial, and an honourable mention in the Grande Prémio Banif at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas-Artes in Lisbon. The previous year, she had been awarded an honourable mention in the Painting and Drawing Prize of the 3rd Congress of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, in Bragança.

Alongside her artistic practice, she works in mainstream education and in drawing tuition, with a connection to the open courses in Basic Drawing and Life Drawing at Cooperativa Árvore. In 2009, she conceived and led the workshop "De, com e dentro de água" at the Academia das Artes de Ponta Delgada.
