David Moreno was born in Barcelona in 1978. Initially trained in Architecture, he turned to artistic practice, developing a body of work that brings drawing close to sculpture. He lives and works between Barcelona and Rotterdam.
His works present imaginary cities, suspended houses and staircases that extend out into space. Built from steel rods and piano wire, they retain the appearance of sketches, as if lines drawn on paper had acquired volume. The process begins precisely in drawing, whose meshes and overlappings give rise to meticulously welded metal structures, able to combine the precision of construction with the spontaneity of the line.
Light takes part in this transformation. Passing through the gaps between the metal elements, it casts shadows and alters the perception of the volumes. Depending on the point of view, the lines cross, accumulate or allow a glimpse of the space that separates them. Many pieces appear to float in front of the wall, in a suspension that heightens their closeness to drawing and invites unhurried observation.
These architectures also evoke human relationships. The links between houses, the routes and the shared structures point to family, community and the bonds of affection or of power that are established between people. Experimentation with colour and the introduction of elements such as porticoes and stairs broaden that vocabulary, allowing different readings of each construction.
He has exhibited internationally since 2006, with presentations in galleries and institutions in Europe, North America and Asia. His solo exhibitions include "Dibujando en el espacio", at N2 Galería in Barcelona, in 2014, "Dibujando esculturas", at Galerie Danysz in Paris, in 2019, and the exhibition presented by the same gallery in Shanghai in 2020.
His work is part of private collections and of the collection of the Fundació Vila Casas in Catalonia, where he is represented by "Flujo Infinito".
