Francisco Pereira Coutinho (Lisbon, 1992) is a photographer and film director. He trained at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, where he was awarded the Best Student Director prize by the Parajanov-Vartanov Institute. His work has been recognised and selected at various international festivals, such as the Indie Shorts Fest, DOC LA and the New York State International Film Festival.
He works mainly in analogue film, exploring the technique of multiple exposure. By superimposing several images on the same frame, he builds compositions in which architecture and organic matter, light and structure, confront and converse with each other. The result is images of a strongly atmospheric character, marked by the tension between technical control and the experimental dimension of the analogue process.
