Jorge Hernández (Huelva, 1973) graduated in Fine Arts from the Universidade de Sevilha in 1996. Over the course of his career he has built a singular pictorial language centred on the appropriation of photographic and cinematic references, using them as a starting point for creating open narratives and ambiguous visual contexts.

His painting unfolds in a territory situated between the figurative, the surreal and the cinematic, where anonymous characters inhabit settings that are at once familiar and disconcerting. Through carefully constructed compositions, saturated colours, direct light and surfaces frequently marked by the use of resin, he creates images that resist immediate readings and invite the viewer to successive interpretations.

His work explores themes connected to memory, the artificial construction of reality and the dynamics of perception, creating visual situations in which the strange emerges from the apparently everyday. His works often function as open narrative devices, where humour, irony and unease coexist in a subtle balance.

He has held solo exhibitions in leading galleries and institutions in Spain, Portugal and Belgium, notably at Galeria São Mamede, Galería My Name's Lolita Art, Centro María Victoria Atencia and Museo de Huelva. He has also taken part in major international fairs, among them ARCO, Art Madrid, JustMad, Context Miami, Estampa, Scope Miami and Swab Barcelona.

Over his career he has received numerous national and international painting prizes, and his work is currently held in significant public and private collections, among them the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga (CAC), various Spanish institutional collections and international private collections, including those of Antonio Banderas and the Baroness Thyssen.
