José Ignacio Lucía, also known by the artistic name Orrite, was born in Madrid in 1981. He graduated in fine arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 2012 and in 2015 completed a master's degree in teacher training, specialising in drawing, at the Universidad Internacional de Valencia.
He works mainly in oil painting, in a figurative language marked by an attention to the light and atmosphere of places. His compositions explore the relationship between presence and absence, both in uninhabited landscapes and in scenes with solitary figures, absorbed in reading or in thought. The surrounding space takes on a decisive role, through the shadows, the colour and the sense of waiting that runs through the images.
Travels to the Nordic countries, in particular to Sweden, had a significant influence on the development of his work. Contact with those landscapes and their inhabitants reinforced his interest in the stillness and mystery of apparently ordinary situations, themes that appear associated with melancholy and with the observation of everyday life.
In 2011 he received the Ayllón painting grant and first prize for painting "Las Navas". Among his solo exhibitions are "Ausencia", presented at the Centro Cultural Villa de Móstoles in 2014, the show at the Centro Cultural de Moncloa in Madrid in 2016, and the exhibition at Galería NB7, also in Madrid, in 2019.
He has taken part in group exhibitions at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Ayllón, the Museo del Traje in Madrid and Galería Subex in Barcelona. His international career includes the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels and the New Art Fair in Paris, both in 2013, as well as regular participation in the editions of FLECHA in Madrid, Bilbao and Majorca.
In 2025 he received the first Premio Flechazo at FLECHA Madrid for the painting "Reflexión con manta y vino". The distinction was awarded by a vote of the artists taking part in the fair.
