Paulo Barreiros Cardoso

Paulo Barreiros Cardoso (Lisbon, 1967) lives and works in Lisbon. A graduate in Conservation and Restoration from the Escola Superior de Conservação e Restauro, he worked professionally in the field of furniture for more than twenty-five years, an experience that deeply marked his artistic practice.

Continued contact with materials, traditional techniques and conservation processes contributed to an approach that is particularly attentive to detail, to matter and to time, elements that remain central to his work. The experience gained in restoration also shaped his capacity to observe the beauty of small gestures, of surfaces and of the marks left by use and by the passing of time.

Although he has painted from an early age, he has devoted himself professionally to the visual arts for about a decade, working above all in watercolour and oil. His work frequently explores relationships between light, silence, landscape and memory, through a pictorial language marked by subtlety and observation.

Over recent years he has presented several solo and group exhibitions, notably Diálogos at Bonhams Lisboa (2020), Entre Mar e Céu (2023), Entre Silêncios (2022) and, most recently, O Eterno e o Efémero, presented at Galeria São Mamede, in Lisbon (2025).
