João Cristóvão
Born in Lisbon in 1960, he began his academic path in Design at IADE, starting his professional career in advertising, where he worked for six years. During that period he was part of the group Os Publicitários Também Pintam, taking part in various group exhibitions held in venues such as the Cordoaria Nacional and the Palácio Galveias.
He later decided to leave advertising in order to devote himself exclusively to painting, furthering his artistic training in the studio of Luis Pinto Coelho in Madrid in 1991 and, later, at the Art Students League in New York in 1996.
Throughout the 1990s he held several solo exhibitions at Galeria Vértice in Lisbon. In 2010 he returned to public solo exhibitions with Wedding Dress, presented at Galeria Bernardo Marques.
Since 2011 he has maintained a continuous relationship with Galeria São Mamede, where he has presented the exhibitions Acompanhantes (2011), Envelope de Verão (2013), Pintura (2016), Smiling Dog (2020) and I Have Only My Dreams (2025).
His artistic practice develops through painting, in a path marked by continuity, experimentation and the deepening of a visual language of his own.
