Bio
González BravoGonzález Bravo (Badajoz, Spain, 1944) has lived and worked in Portugal since 1970. Over more than five decades of career he has built a solid international path, developing a regular presence in galleries, museums, art fairs and institutional collections in Europe and the United States.
His painting develops through a singular abstract language, deeply centred on the materiality and physical presence of the painted surface. Through compositions built from successive layers, spatial tensions and subtle chromatic variations, he explores relationships between gesture, texture, colour and structure, in a continuous process of construction, erosion and visual transformation.
Throughout his career he has presented numerous solo exhibitions in leading galleries and institutions, among them Galerie Got in Paris, Galeria São Mamede in Lisbon and Porto, the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC) in Badajoz, as well as spaces in Madrid, Düsseldorf, Geneva and New York. He has also taken part in important international fairs, including ARCO Madrid, Art Miami, Art Madrid and the Palm Springs Art Fair.
His work is part of significant public and private collections, among them the Banco de Portugal, the Banco Comercial Português, the MEIAC, Spanish public institutions and various international collections in Europe and the United States. His work is also documented in a number of publications devoted to contemporary Iberian painting.
